Rocky Mountain Revival:

Mills Lake Hike!

Why You’ve Gotta Be There

Trade the city noise for thunderous alpine waterfalls, sharp granite ridgelines, and one of the most iconic lake views in the Rockies. This isn’t just a hike—it’s a full-sensory reset. We’re talking glacial gorges, towering pines, and Mills Lake—crystal-clear, framed by jagged peaks with names like “Keyboard of the Winds.” Yeah, it’s that kind of epic.

Clocking in around 5.3 miles with 800 feet of elevation gain, it’s got just enough edge to feel like you earned the view—but not so intense you’ll regret your life choices halfway up. Smooth. Balanced. A little bold.

This trail is pure Colorado—untamed, clean-lined, and made to be experienced, not just seen.

Logistics & Timing

  • Trailhead: Glacier Gorge Trailhead, Rocky Mountain National Park

  • Distance: ~5.0–5.4 miles round‑trip, ~750–840 ft elevation gain

  • Estimated Duration: 3.5–4 hours total, including breaks

  • Drive Time: Around 1 hour 45 minutes from Denver (without traffic)

  • Arrival Time: Please plan to arrive by 9:45 AM—we start hiking at 10:00 AM sharp

Timed Entry Permit Required

From late May through mid‑October, vehicles must have a timed-entry reservation to enter Rocky Mountain National Park between 9 AM and 2 PM. If you enter before 9 AM or after 2 PM, this permit isn’t required, though park admission still is.

Timed-entry + Bear Lake Road permits cover the Glacier Gorge Trailhead during these hours—make sure to obtain the correct permit. You must enter within your designated 2-hour window (8:00AM - 10:00AM) or risk being turned away.

FEE: $2.00 USD

Carpool Coordination

No car? Need a ride? Want to host coworkers for the drive?

  • Opt into carpooling with an $8 per rider fuel fee at RSVP (100% of fuel fee goes to the driver! We LOVE our drivers!)

  • We’ll connect drivers and passengers

  • Green, efficient, and stress‑free!

Dog Policy

Rocky Mountain National Park has a firm rule: Pets (including dogs) are prohibited on all trails, tundra, and meadows. Only certified service animals with documentation are permitted.

So sadly, rug-paws must sit this one out.

What to Bring

To make it a seamless adventure, here’s your essential kit:

  • 2+ liters of water

  • Packed lunch and snacks

  • Layered clothing (think changing temps at elevation)

  • Sturdy hiking boots

  • Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)

  • Light shell or rain layer

  • Park entry fee or pass

  • Signed waiver (everyone attending, including guests)

Weather at high altitude twists quickly—dress smart.
